Our Story

Methodist English High School stood in Rangoon, Burma — a place of learning, friendship, and formative years for hundreds of students. In 1965, the Burmese government nationalised all private schools, and MEHS as we knew it ceased to exist. The school is gone. But we are not.

MEHSA — the Methodist English High School Alumni — is how we stay together. Alumni scattered across Malaysia, the United States, Australia, the United Kingdom, Singapore, Canada, and beyond. We are a diaspora bound not by geography but by shared memory: school songs sung in harmony, house competitions, friendships that have outlasted decades and distance.

Every reunion is more than a gathering. It is an act of remembrance and defiance — proof that what happened at that school in Rangoon still matters, still lives in us, and is worth celebrating.

The refrain still rings true across every reunion: "M.E.H.S. — Safe for aye in memory's shrine. Praise and love be ever thine." It is why we return. It is why we sing.
